Directors Toolkit '13: Basics of Cinematography (Sold Out)
A special in-depth class for directors and writers on the basic principles of cinematography. Taught by Jeanne Tyson, this three-hour class will address concepts of visual storytelling through the use of lighting, lens choices, composition, movement, depth of field, color, contrast, and filters. A strong emphasis will be on lighting objectives and strategy, the director/DP relationship, and how to ask for what you want.

Jeanne Tyson is a cinematographer who was born and raised in Mobile, Alabama. She is a graduate of the master’s program for cinematography at UCLA. Her work on various productions, including features, shorts, and documentaries, has given her the opportunity to shoot not only in Los Angeles, but also in Germany, Alabama, Arkansas, and New York. In 2011, Jeanne received the award for Best Cinematography at the UCLA Festival of New Creative Work for her work on the short film Foot Solider, Directed by Jon Crawford. In addition to shooting, Jeanne is also an instructor at UCLA Extension.

EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS CANCELLATIONS AND REFUND POLICY

PLEASE NOTE: Film Independent often overbooks free events to allow for no-shows.  We strongly urge you to arrive early to ensure a seat.  Seating can only be guaranteed up to 15 minutes prior to event start time.

In order to receive a refund to any program or workshop you must submit the request in writing. Single-night Workshop or Toolkit cancellations and weekend Conference cancellations must be made in writing no later than 48 hours before the start of the workshop/conference. Series cancellations for the Directors Close-Up must be made at least 72 hours prior to the second session.

A 15% Cancellation Fee will be applied to all refunds.
